1660 Animals deaths in N-E provinces due to adverse weather

Department of Animal Production and Health in Peradeniya says 1660 animals, including cows, buffalos, and goats, had died in the Northern and Eastern Provinces due to adverse weather conditions experienced in the provinces recently.
The report further said the deaths were due to the shock caused by the extreme cold weather and not by any diseases.
The Eastern provincial Department of Local Government instructed to close all slaughterhouses and meat shops, except chicken shops, until December 18, 2022, after rumours that some were attempting to sell the dead animals for human consumption.
