March 07, 2023, Tehran: Iran’s top general says the country can now produce ballistic missiles capable of destroying moving marine targets.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Baqeri, said, “This missile has been successfully tested, and its mass production has started.” “After production of this missile, Iran will be among the three countries possessing the [technical] know-how to make such missiles,” the general said.
He added that the new ballistic missile could hit its target with a speed of Mach 8 and a final range of 1,500 kilometres and deliver precision strikes. “From now on, invading airplane carriers and [foreign] fleets will not be safe at a distance of 1,500 kilometres of our shores, and this is an achievement reached by our elite youths,” Baqeri said.
In recent years, Iranian military experts and technicians have made substantial headway in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the arms sphere. Iranian officials have repeatedly warned that the country will not hesitate to strengthen its military capabilities, including its missile power, which are entirely meant for defence, saying the Islamic Republic’s defence capabilities will never be subject to negotiations.
In November, the commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC)’s Aerospace Division, Brigadier General Amirali Hajizadeh, said Iran possesses global-level drone power and is now a pioneer in missile technology. He added that Iran stands on par with global powers regarding unmanned aerial vehicles, and its achievements in this field have challenged the world’s powerful armies.
