April 05, 2023, Colombo: A private member’s Bill to amend the penal code in favour of LGBT Q plus people was presented to Parliament by MP Premanath Dolawatta yesterday (April 04).
“The Bill seeks to amend the penal code in support of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and others,” MP Dolawatta said. The intent of the legislature in an enactment must be considered as amending the penal code’s provisions, which makes sexual orientation a punishable offence.
Meanwhile, voluntary and carnal intercourse against the order of nature with an animal shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term extending to ten years and liable for a fine.
