March 04, 2023, Colombo: The Executive Council of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna has decided to remove Parliamentarian Prof. GL Peiris as the Chairman of the SLPP.
General Secretary of the SLPP MP Sagara Kariyawasam said the decision was reached unanimously when the SLPP Executive Council convened recently. MP Kariyawasam said MP GL Peiris was informed in writing to attend the Executive Council meeting, yet he failed to be present.
According to reports, steps are underway to select a suitable individual to take over the responsibility of the SLPP Chairman. Attention is also reportedly being directed towards a civil society member being elected to the post.
MP Kariyawasam said a final decision in this regard is due to be reached this week when the Executive Council convenes.
