February 09, 2023, Colombo: Former President Maithripala Sirisena said that President Ranil Wickremesinghe had taken a torch burning from both sides by trying to implement the 13th Amendment to the Constitution fully.
He said he wondered why Ranil Wickremesinghe was trying to implement this controversial 13A when the country faced serious issues. Mr. Sirisena said none of the former Presidents, such as JR Jayawardene, who introduced the 13A, Ranasinghe Premadasa, D.B. Wijetunge, Chandrika Bandaranaike, Mahinda Rajapaksa, or himself ever attempted to implement it.
He said it was not an easy task as majority of Sinhalese Buddhists are against it. “13th Amendment has to be dealt with care,” he said.

If you need to resolve the country’s economic problem, first, SL must address the racism and minorities issues to get financial support from the donor countries, such as G7, EU, and Middle East.
